Why Bar Soap?
We pack all the skincare you need into a bar. You aren’t paying for water (which is the main ingredient in most skincare) AND in a bar, there is less waste. Less packaging. Less recycling. Less transporting. Bar soap is the most sustainable skincare option, and we have set out to change the world, one bar at a time. Whether you are wanting to streamline your skincare routine, you are looking to live a low tox lifestyle, or are seeking to help the planet... We have a bar for you!
What makes our soap stand out?
A Brooklyn Soapworks bar is filled with the same premium oils found in fancy oil cleansers and serums. We put all of these rare and expensive oils into our bar formulas. Why? Because they have the same nourishing and cleansing power in a bar, as they do from a tiny bottle. So go ahead, use it on your face. (I founded the company because I couldn’t find anything to wash my face with, because my skin is so sensitive. . . I use the Brooklyn Soapworks No. 7 hemp seed bar, every day. Honestly.)
Bar soap for my face, too? Really? But how do I pick a bar?
We are formulated differently from other soaps, using the cold process method to allow all the natural goodness from the oils we use, to cleanse and moisturize your skin. (The technical term is called “superfatting” and while no “fat” is involved, it basically means that all the good oils aren’t used up in the chemical reaction of making soap so they are free to just be their super self oils and nourish your skin. It is what differentiates our soap, from mass produced soap. You can only superfat if you make it by hand…. that’s why our soap is different. Alas, back to your original question!) Selecting the bar best for you is easy! All of our soap is numbered in order with 1 being for oily skin and 7 being for extra sensitive skin. Some soaps contain essential oils, but most are essential oil free. All of our sensitive skin soaps are formulated without any essential oils. We use a base formula of oils that provide a bar soap that nourishes and cleanses without being harsh. Most commercial soaps are "detergents" and strip the oils from your skin, resulting in the need for lotions, serums and creams. Our bar is made by hand, using a cold processed method, thus retaining all the glycerin and natural goodness to be absorbed by your skin. It takes longer to make, but we think it is worth the wait.
Sustainability Ethos
Fresh and clean applies to Mother Earth, too. We take seriously being stewards of the planet, that’s how we got into making bar soap to begin with.
We support small regional farms and indigenous populations seeking to make their living from the land (if you have connections with a small farmer in the USA or beyond, who has amazing plants to work with, please reach out to us here). We are always striving to support the planet and each other. A dedicated zero waste philosophy applies to all of our purchasing and packaging activities. We aren’t perfect, but we try to close the loop on recycling as best as we can.
